The land from Penn to James WRIGHT and his wife Agnes, nephew Hugh CUNNINGHAM and John MCDOWELL. Early settlers were Scotch-Irish and nearly all Presbyterians. The Upper West Conocoheague Presbyterian Church organized in 1738. On May 26, 1756 in a battle with the Indians, John WASSON of Peters Twp. was killed, his house burned wife taken captive. Joseph MARTIN killed, John and James McCULLOUGH taken captive. SOLDIERS KILLED: James and William McDONALD, Bartholomew McCAFFERTY, and Anthony McQOID. SOLDIERS MISSING: James CORKEM and William CORNWALL. INHABITANTS KILLED: John CULBERTSON Samuel PERRY Hugh CARREL(KERRELL) John WOODS, his wife and mother-in-law, Mrs. Susan King CUNNINGHAM Elizabeth ARCHER. INHABITANTS MISSING: Four children of John ARCHER Samuel NEELY, a boy James McQUOID, a child.
