He was one of the oldest men in the county, having reached the age of 96 years. He was born in St. Thomas township and was a laborer there for many years. For the past twenty years he has been at the almshouse. Tuesday, while the poor directors and some of The Children's Aid Society directors were going through the building, they stopped to talk to the aged man. Mr. Suesserott, attorney to the board, asked him his age. He seemed in his usual health. Fifteen minutes later he was dead. He had died peacefully, without a struggle. It is said he did not have a relative in the county. He was in sturdy health, notwithstanding his advanced age and his death was very unexpected. People's Register, Chambersburg, PA, April 9, 1897
