Hackberry Drive, (Chambersburg, PA) formerly of Waynesboro, died at 9:40 am Dec. 2, 1980, in the Chambersburg Hospital. He was in failing health for the past year and was critically ill and confined to the hospital since suffering a heart attack Nov. 10. Born in Graceson, Cumberland County, PA, Jan. 22, 1901, he was the son of the late J. Sherman and Mary E. Shockey Carr. As a young man he was employed by the C.G. & W. Railway Co. and the Waynesboro Electric Co. He later farmed and was employed by Frick Co., Waynesboro. Prior to his retirement in 1966 he was last employed in maintenance work at Mt. Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro, by the Franklin County Housing Authority. A Protestant by faith, Mr. Carr was a social member of the Greencastle American Legion. His wife, Mrs. Olie V. Doyle Carr, died in October 1965. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Dean (Katherine M.) Gift, Waynesboro; Mrs. Charles (Margie) Gunder, Jr., Mentzer Gap Road; five sons: Henry S. Carr (Naomi). R.R. 1, Greencastle; S. Leroy (Viola) Carr and Donald Carr, both of Marion; Claude T. Carr (Vera), Chambersburg; Harold W. Carr (Margaret), Gibsontown, Fla.; 37 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a brother, W. Lloyd Carr (Ann), Springfield, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ida) Newell, Fayetteville. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 pm in the Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Sampson Myers officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
