Charles F. Etchberger, 79, of 202 S. Second St., died at 9:10 a.m. yesterday 
in a Harrisburg hospital after a long illness. Born in Newport, in April 5, 
1877, he was the son of the late Simon and Josephine Van Newkirk Etchberger. 
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a veteran of the Spanish-
American War, a member and past president of the Genl. Joseph B. Hutchinson 
Post of the USAWV, a member and past post commander of the Charles M. 
Nitterhouse post, 1599, VFW; Kearney Lodge, 159, Knight of Pythias, and the 
Junior Fire company. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Della M. Carr 
Etchberger; a son, John E. Etchberger, 244 S. Sixth St., and five 
grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. Funeral services will 
be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Barbour funeral home with the Rev. 
Martin F. Foutz officiating. Burial will be made in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 
o'clock.
