Helm, Sr., 63, of 10959 Buchanan Trail East, died at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, Feb. 19 [1985], in the Waynesboro Hospital. He was critically ill since he was admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack Monday evening. He had suffered with a heart ailment for a number of years. Born in Waynesboro on Oct. 6, 1921, he was the son of Mrs. Edith (Snider) Helm, Waynesboro, and the late Orlow Helm, Sr. All of his life was lived in the Waynesboro area. He and his wife were married in July 1940, and had lived at the present residence for the past 22 years. In 1944, he purchased the Shockey Abattoir which he operated under his own name, along with several local grocery stores, until ill health force him to discontinue his business operations in 1960. For the past 20 years, he and his wife have operated a hoagie and sandwich shop on Buchanan Trail East. He was a member of the Mechanics Fire Co, the Owls Club, the Order of Owls and the Eagles Club Inc. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Madeline [Noll] Helm, and his mother, he is survived by two sons, Ralph E. Helm, Jr. and D. Keith Helm, both of Waynesboro, and three grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. in the Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
