Miller, aged 84 years, and civil war veteran, died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Charles L. Shockey, Roadside, at 3:40 o'clock Thursday morning. He was taken critically ill Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Miller was born near Heidlersburg, the son of James and Hannah [Starry] Miller. He had lived in the Roadside section for the past 45 years with the exception of a short time spent in Waynesboro. He was a Civil War veteran and a member of the Christ church, Hagerstown. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. R.B. Reary, York; Mrs. Jacob Monn, Fox Hill; and Mrs. S.T. Hixon, Hershey. Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Monroe Miller, Harrisburg; and two sisters, Miss Rachel Miller, Heidlersburg; and Mrs. Ellen Miller, York Springs, also survive. Private funeral services Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Grove funeral home, South church street, Waynesboro, in charge of the Rev. O.F. Sherwood. Burial in Burns Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.
