Mowen, a brother of Daniel H. Mowen of Myersville, this county, died on Sunday week at his residence about 3 miles east of Greencastle, PA of consumption and heart trouble, resulting from disabilities contracted during the late war, he having served in both the infantry and Calvary service in a Pennsylvania regiment. He was in his 58th year of age, and leaves a wife and seven (7) children, also 3 brothers and sisters of a family of six children, who survived their parents 38 years, he was the first to die. Interment was made on the 17th instant, at the Lutheran cemetery in Greencastle. The Daily News, Monday 30 January 1893, Frederick, Maryland Page 4, Col 1 Additional Comments: David H. Mowen was the son of Peter Mowen and Rebecca Renner. He married Susan A. Fenwicks, daughter of Michael Lohman Fenwicks, on 10 April 1870 in State Line, PA; He served in the Civil War in Co L, 22nd Pa. Cavalry as well as Co G 158 Pa. Infantry; His date of death comes from his Civil War pension papers.
