All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/franklin/ _______________________________________________ George MOWEN Killed by a Tree The Greencastle correspondent of the Chambersburg Repository says about 8 p.m. Wednesday a party of men were engaged in cutting down a large tree on the farm of Oliver Brown, about one and a half miles from here. The tree had been severed from the stump and in falling it struck upon a large limb and whirled across the chest of Geo. Mowen, killing him instantly. Mowen was 25 years old, unmarried and a son of the widow of David Mowen. He was a fine young man with many friends. The unfortunate young man was a nephew of Adam R. Mowen, this city, and Daniel H. Mowen of Myersville. His funeral occured on Friday at 9 o'clock am. The News, Hagerstown, MD, 20 Mar 1897, page 6, col 5, Additional Comments: George was the son of David H. Mowen and Susan A.
