OLLER, Waynesboro, died in the Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore at 6:30 o'clock Saturday morning. He had gone to the hospital three times from his home for surgical operations. It was thought he was greatly improved but another operation was necessary Friday and he could not survive it. Surgeons worked two and one-half hours in their effort to remove the tumor which caused his illness but his strength was not sufficient to permit of their completing the operation. Mr. Oller was a bishop of the German Baptist church and the leading official in that church. He was born in this county, in Washington township, Jan. 18, 1825, and was a most useful citizen. When he was twenty years old he began teaching school in winter and working on the farm in summer. For a time he clerked in a dry goods store and then engaged in business with John Phillips. After two years they disposed of their business and Mr. Oller resumed farming. For ten years he continued farming with much success. Then he engaged, in Quincy township, in store keeping for two years. In 1866, when the Geiser, Price & Co. manufactory was established he became one of the partners in the firm. Since the firm has been made a corporation Mr. Oller has been connected with it. He was for a number of years president of the company and for a long time has been a member of its board of directors. He is now also president of the Bank of Waynesboro. Mr. Oller was married, July 20, 1848, to Elizabeth Bonbrake. His wife and these children survive him: Joseph J. Oller, treasurer of the Geiser company; Mrs. Rebecca, wife of C. C. Stull; Mrs. Susan, wife of Joseph E. Roher; Jesse R. Oller; Mrs. Anne, wife of Silas F. Dubbel, May and John B., all of Waynesboro. Mr. Oller was ordained as bishop of the German Baptist church in 1883 but has been a minister in the church for nearly forty years. He has always been a very active worker for his church and has been accorded a high rank by his denomination for his untiring zeal. His son, Joseph J. Oller, was notified by telephone of his illness at twelve o'clock the same night and started this morning for Baltimore but did not reach there until his father had died. His body will be brought to Waynesboro for burial. People's Register, Chambersburg, PA, February 5, 1897
