After fighting death for twenty years, Alvin Rider, a well-known resident of Chambersburg, died at noon Thursday. In 1879 Rider, after worker (sic) in a harvest field, took a plung into cold water and was stricken with paralysis. He was carried home by fellow-workmen and had since spent his life in an invalids chair. Physicians frequently told him his death was but a question of a short time. Rider was born in Taneytown, Md., and was fifty-five years old. New Oxford Item, January 27, 1899
