All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/franklin/ _________________________________________ SHOCKEY - Henry Hoover Shockey, 98, Waynesboro R.D. 1, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the Waynesboro Hospital. He had not been feeling well for the past three weeks but had been around as usual. He was admitted to the hospital after he was taken critically ill Monday evening. He was born at Hooverville, April 14, 1864, a son of the late Christian W. and Anna Hoover Shockey. All of his life was lived in the Waynesboro area. He had farmed the Spielman farm near the abattoir which he also operated and that connection he was a dealer in livestock. He had served as county treasurer from 1918 until 1922 and for 25 years he had lived at Wayne Heights. For the past seven years he lived with his stepdaughter, Mrs. Joe H. Middour, Waynesboro, R.D. 1. He had been semi-retired for the past 10 years, but occasionally dealt in livestock. He was first married to Ida Spielman who died in 1923. In 1927 he was married to Etha (Hoffman) Stevenson who died in 1958. He was a member of the Rouzerville Church of the Brethren. He is survived by four stepchildren: Paul H. Stevenson, Wayne Heights; Mrs. Joe H. Middour and Mrs. John K. Royer, both of Waynesboro R.R. 1; and Lewis H. Stevenson, Smithsburg R.D. 2; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. H. James Pearson and the Rev. Glenn Heckman. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Brotherhood Fund of the Church of the Brethren at the Citizens National Bank and Trust Co.
