"Al" Shoop, 6912 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, and formerly of Burnt Cabins, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, in Chambersburg Hospital. Funeral services were held Feb. 14 in St. Thomas with the Rev. Ted Hale officiating. Burial was in Upper Path Valley Cemetery. Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Burnt Cabins, he was a son of the late Fred and Goldie Bowman Shoop. He and his wife, Janet (Bender) Walls Shoop, were married Jan. 23, 1976. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Randy of Zullinger, Val Shoop and Roger Walls, both of St. Thomas and Glenn Walls of Fayetteville; two daughters, Marcia Rice of Amberson and Cindy Wenger of Chambersburg; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Genevieve Houck of Orbisonia, Devona Black of Three Springs and Glorynne Sharp of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Shoop; a brother, McFern; and a sister, Delores Whitt. He was a farmer when he lived in Burnt Cabins, and later in life he worked for the former American Can Co. as a supervisor and later was a self-employed contractor. A member of the St. Thomas Sportsmen's Association, Mr. Shoop was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Fort Loudon Legion Post 606 and the Mercersburg Moose. An avid hunter, Mr. Shoop enjoyed playing pool and was in a pool league. He also enjoyed football. The Valley Log, Orbisonia, Pa., February 20, 2002
