I John Puttererbough of Montgomery Township Franklin County and State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding having concluded and by these presents doth conclude in the presents of the subscribing witnesses to make this my last will and Testament. If it pleases the lord to call me from this, I order and appoint my Brother Henry Putterbaugh of the Township aforesaid and Andrew Kline of the County of Washington and State of Maryland Executors for my family to assist them in settling all my affairs. In the first place I order and direct that all my small debts be paid without being proven if the Execus shall think them Just and the payments of my lands to be regularly paid as the become due I order and direct that the plantation whereon I now dwell and the land I took up in Montgomery Township aforesaid is not to be sold but to be kept Together the plantation I now live on is to be rented out yearly by my Executors, untill my Children shall come of age as they shall think most adviseable the lands in Morrisson Cove Bedford County is to be sold by my Executors if a good oppertunity offers, and should it so happen that the Plantation whereon I now live as aforesaid should be lost on account of its being in Law then and in such case it is my will that my Father George Putterbough take back the Lands which I bought of him and he or his heirs to pay the Executors in yearly (Gales?) as I paid him, and if I Die soon I allow that all the beds cloaths and linnins which my wife and Children may require for their own use is not to be sold but to remain for them, and also to have grain and other necessaries for life untill there be new grain again and the Executors shall at all times provide and procure for them as they may think most adviseable, and shall leave to them my Mare and two cows, which ever my wife may choose, and Household furniture, and the resto of my furniture and my own cloaths grain, wagon and creatures, to be sold at public vendue for the highest price that can be got escepting the Hogs and four Sheep which on the place and to have feed and pasture for them creatures that they shall keep I allow for my wife and Children, and they to remain on the Plantation (and the money that shall come in from the sales as aforesaid I allow a third part of the personal Estate and the third part of the Rents to my wife Elizabeth during her life (if all the debts are paid) and if all my children have attained their full ages, and the place should be sold my children consenting thereto, Then the are to value what the thirds of the rents would be, which sum my wife is to Receive, and my son David is to receive Twenty pounds, when he arrives of age and my Executors shall think it best and the Remainder is to be equally divided amongst all my Children share and share allike when they attain their full ages, The Executors to put the money to a good use for them and they are to be sent to Shool to be learned to read good, and te boys to be learned to write perfectly, and if the come to their proper understanding and their Inclination leads them to learn Trades, they are to be put to good Tradesman to be approved off by my Executors and this I allow to be my last will and Testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred seven hundred and ninety five. If the lands in law should be lost then and in such case my wife is to get the Interest of a third part of the money comming from the lands and should it not prove sufficient, then it is to be be left to two disinterested persons what she is to have, the 8th of January, 1795. David Putterbough John Putterbough Henry Kow This is to certify that I Elizabeth Putterbough widow of John Putterbough Dec, in the within will named, do acknowledge that I have heard the will read and all that Concerns me, Being Perfectly satisfied with it. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of February 1795. In the Presence of us her David Putterbough, Henry Kow Elizabeth X Putterbough Mark On the 20th day of February 1795 David Putterbaugh & Henry Cowan the witnesses to the forgoing writing appeared before me the Subscriber Register for the probate of wills etc. for Franklin County, and on the solomn oath of the said Henry & affirmation of the said David, doth depose (Jay?) that they were personally present & saw and heard John Puterbaugh aforesaid (now decd.) write his name thereto & seal and publish the foregoing writing as and for his last will & Testament and that at the time of the doing thereof he the said John was of sound and (dessofing?) mind memory & understanding according to the best of their knowledge and belief, that their names signed thereto as witnesses is of their own hands writing done at the same time.
