From files of June 24, 1926. All of Fulton County was shocked on Sunday when it learned that three young men had drowned in Little Creek near the Josie Truax home. The boys were Donald and Marshall Garland, about 20 and 17, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Garland of Thompson Township and Fred Bard, about 15, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bard of Pleasant Ridge. Although the creek was not deep where the boys were swimming, they hit a deep hole and the whirlpool suction held them to the bottom. When found, the three were clasped together. The triple funeral of Donald and Marshall Garland and Fred Bard, the boys whoses deaths by drowning were told last week, was the largest ever witnessed in Fulton County. More than 1500 persons attended services at the Pleasant Ridge Brethren Church, the sermon being delivered from the church porch. From the Fulton County News, “Remember Articles”, June 27, 1996.
