This information may not be copied, or used in any way for commercial purposes without the written permission of the author. The Riggs family reunions were held annually at Wheeling Park, Wheeling, WV from 1927 through 1958, typically on the third Sunday of August. A ledger was kept in order to chronicle the event. Only the first six years of the ledger will be published at this time, in order to protect the privacy of living individuals. It is believed that the attendees were all descendants of James Riggs (b. 1787) and Roseanna Whitlatch (born abt. 1790), of Virginia. At least four of their eleven children migrated to GREENE County, PA in the early 1830s. The families spread throughout PA, WV, OH, and beyond. The following transcribes the records found in that ledger. (As many of the relationships between the individuals named are not known, anyone wishing to contribute to this family tree may do so by contacting the transcriber.) Please note that the spellings of names varied during the years, as different individuals were responsible for recording them. After a picnic dinner a short business session and program was called to order by James Clark, acting in the place of President H.H. Riggs. The program opened by a guitar and harmonica solo by Frank Riggs of Freeport, OH. The minutes of the last meeting were then read and approved. Next there followed the elections of officers, at which time the present officers were re-elected. They are - President, H.H. Riggs; Vice-President, James McGlumphy; Secretary, Mrs. Florence Riggs West; Treasurer, James Clark. A letter was read from Sherman Fisher of Moundsville suggesting changing the time of meeting to sometime other than the Sabbath. It was moved and seconded to table the letter, with all due respects to the writer, because a larger number would be able to attend on Sunday than any other day. Dr. Chauncey Lively, who favored us with a short talk, said that he was sure that we could feel as spiritual leaving a reunion after renewing old acquaintances as we would had we attended church services. A quartette composed of John Riggs of Tridelphia, Hugh McGlumphy of Canton, S.J. Masters of West Alexander, PA, and James Mcglumphy of Martins Ferry, OH, sang several sacred songs. Quite a discussion followed in regard to the office of Secretary, as Leona McGlumphy Thomas asked to be relieved. Ethel Fisher was nominated, but declined. Della M. Berger and Laura Yoder did likewise. Mrs. Thomas finally consented to take the office for another year. Mrs. James Clark was named as her assistant. Mr. James Clark was elected treasurer. A free will offering was taken, amounting to $3.17. Newt West made a motion that we meet again next year on the third Sunday in August.
