The Will of Thomas Kent, Sr. (Greene County, PA Will Book 2, p. 781): Will of Thomas Kent dec'd. This is the last will & Testament of me Thomas Kent of Franklin township, Greene County, Pennsylvania made the 19th day of December 1834. Imprimus - My will is that all just debts and former expenses be paid. Item --. My will is that my wife Ann have the whole and sole control, use, occupation, and profits of my farm & plantation where I now live during her natural life. Also all the household furniture which may be deemed necessary by my Executors for her comfortable living, two horses, such as I may dispossessed of their geers and the farming utensils which may remain on the farm at my death, all which is to be hers during life. Item --. I give and bequeath to my son George Kent one hundred dollars for his trouble & disappoint in not getting the land on Wheeling. Item --. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah one hundred and fifty dollars in money payable in three years after my decease, one horse worth Fifty dollars, one Cow and the bed and bedding which she now calls her own. Item --. I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Melissa Kent, daughter of my son Jesse, one Bed and bedding worth at least thirty dollars. Item --. My will is that residue and remainder of my estate be divided into eleven shares, to be given to my children William, George, Thomas, Nancy, Catherine, Elizabeth, James, Sarah, Jesse, & David each one share and my grand children, the children of my daughter Polly White the other share. The legacy of my daughter Catharine to be paid to my son Thomas in trust for her use as he may think best for her. Lastly - I nominate, constitute, and appoint my two sons, George Kent & Thomas Kent executors of this my last will & testament, Given under my hand and seal the day and year first above written. And Thomas Hook, two of the subscribing witnesses to the within instrument of writing, and being duly sworn, did say that they were present and saw and heard Thomas Kent, the Testator within named sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament, and that at the time of doing thereof, he was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding according to the best of their judgement, observation and belief.
