Will of Stephen Mapel (Copied from Will Book #2, page 199, number 1135; Greene Co. PA) I Stephen Mapel of Monongahalia Township Greene County and State of Pennsylvania being far advanced in life, but of sound mind & memory & knowing that all men must die do make and ordain this my last will & testament. Principally, I will my immortal soul to the great Almighty who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent & christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named. As to the disposal of my worldly property wherewith god has been pleased to bless me with, I will and dispose of it in the manner following First, I will that all my just debts, funeral expenses &c. be paid out of my personal estate. Secondly, I will & bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Mary all my household & Kitchen furniture & utensils absolute. Likewise it is my will that she the said Mary shall have the use and occupancy of the whole of my real estate during her natural lifetime. Thirdly, I will that after my decease my stock, farming utensils, hay, grain &c. be exposed to public sale excepting such as may be necessary for the convenience & comfort of my wife Mary and further I do hereby appoint my sons Thomas, Robert & Benjamin to be arbiters to decide (they or any two of them) what may be reserved for the use of my wife Mary and at the end of one year after my decease the neat proceeds of my personal estate to be put to interest & such interest to be payable annually to my wife Mary by my Executor. Fourthly, Whereas my son Benjamin Mapel being the only child of mine remaining with me in consequence of his filial conduct I do hereby make him sole heir to the real & personal estate at the death of my wife Mary (excepting such property as is willed to her absolute heretofore which is to be at her own disposal) subject to the payment of such legacys as shall be herein & hereafter mentioned. Fifthly, I will that my son Thomas my son Robert my daughters Rebecca Keener, Sarah Royce, Elizabeth Altman & Mary Gregg do each of them have & receive of my Executor the sum of forty Dollars likewise to my Grandson John Donham the sum of two Dollars, the said Legacys to be due & payable at the expiration of six months after the decease of my wife Mary. I do furthermore appoint & constitute my son Benjamin to be my lawfull Executor to Execute & carry into effect this my last will and testament agreeable to the true intent & meaning of the same.
