We encourage links to the State and County Table of Contents. ____________________________________________ The following is the text of the will of Daniel Steward (sic): In the name of God Amen, I Daniel Steward of Franklin Township and Greene County and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, being weak of body, but perfect mind and memory, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, And first, I give and recommend my soul to God who give it, and my body to be buried in a christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors, as nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. As for such worldly goods God has blest me with in this life, I give and bequeath them in manner and form following and first, after the payment of my just debts and funeral charges be pad and satisfyed, I give unto my son Samuel a piece or percel of land where he now lives, beginning at the big run and runs up the lane, where the little run puts in and so up to the side of Daniel field to his ridge field and runs a south course to the corner of Samuel field, then West to the original line; Second, I give and bequeath unto my son Daniel a certain piece or percel of land from a whight oak, thence to a chesnut oak stump five rood from William __, thence East course sixteen rood, thence North about thirty rood up the little drain to a small whight oak; Thirdly, I give unto my son William a piece or percel of land Beginning at the chesnut oak West fifteen rood, thence South twenty five to a white oak; thence West course to the original line; Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my son Elisha a piece of land Beginning and running fifteen rood on the old general line, thence East about twelve outs(?) on a bench of the hill, thence North about twenty rood, thence West to William line on a chesnut oak; Fifthly, I give unto my son James that part of land whereon my house and orchard now is Beginning including the barn, Beginning on the run down by Samuel and running East thirty rood, thence South twenty rood, thence East ten rood, thence South thirty rood, thence West twenty five rood (It is to be understood that my Daughter Rebeckah is to have forty acres on the South side of the point including the orchard). Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Nancy twenty acres of land joining lands with James and Rebeckah Steward and Elisha (It is to be understood that I give three horses and my saddle and bridle to my son James). Next I give my wife saddle and riding coat and bonet, and one third of Whareing cloathes, one bed and bed clothes, also one black white face cow, and one little wheel as good one as there is unto my Daughter Dorcas; And unto my Daughter Rebeckah I give one fourth of my wifes clothes, one bed and beding, one wheel, and one Cow; And I give unto James one Cow and one bed and beding; And I give unto Rachel on Cow and one wheel, and two of her mother's garments; I also give unto Drusylla one bed and beding and one fifth of the household furniture (It is to be understood that I give Rachel one fifth part of the furniture). I also give Nancy one fifth part of the shelf furniture, I also give my son James one axe, one grubbing, one broad hoe (It is to be understood that the meat and grain I give to my son James and Rebeckah and Dorcas, and I give on eight gallon pot to my son James, and one ten Gallon kettle to Rebeckah, and one ten Gallon kettle to Dorcas; I also give Drusylla one Dutch oven that is sound, and the other oven to Polley and four Dollars in money to Polley. (It is also to be understood that I give unto Samuel my three Cows and two yearlans, and eight hogs, and one rifle gun, and my wearing clothes to discharge the debts and funeral expences & what is over divide among the children, that the boys; And I do constitute and appoint William Hickman, my brother in law, to be my Executor and my son Samuel, which I appoint my Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all other wills and testament by me made, declaring this and this only to be my last will and testament this fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen. his Signed,Sealed, published and pronounced and Daniel Steward declared by the said Daniel Steward as his last will mark and testament in presence of us, who in his presence have subscribed our names. Test - Amos Tuttle, Sen'r Joseph Higgins Greene County ss. {SEAL} On the eighteent day of March Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and sixteen, before me William Thompson Hays, Register for the Probate of ____ , in and for the County aforesaid, personally appeared Amos Tuttle and Joseph Higgins the subscribing witnesses to the within will and on their solemn oaths did declare that they were present and saw and heard Daniel Steward the testator within named, sign, seal, publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament, and that at the time of doing thereof he was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of their knowledge, observation and belief.
