Coal Dealer: Born at Newry, Blair County, Pennsylvania, a son of Thomas J. Baker, of Newry, Pa. He was a Civil War veteran, a Justice of the Peace, a School director, and was a deacon in the Lutheran Church for thirty years; owned a farm, was a graduate of Pittsburgh Business College, and a useful citizen, now deceased. He was married to Nancy (Graybill) Baker, whose father owned and operated the turnpike from Hollidaysburg to Martinsburg, Pa. She is deceased. William Stansbury Baker began his school career in Blair County. He is a graduate of Indiana State Normal, Indiana, Pa., and also the Zenarian Art College of Columbus, Ohio He was a teacher for fourteen years in Blair and Huntingdon counties. He has been a coal dealer for twenty years. The family all belong to the Presbyterian church. He has been a trustee, he has been a councilman for years, and a member of the P.O.S. of A. at Alexandria, Pa. He has five brothers: H. F., at Kansas City, Mo.; Frank, Kansas City, Mo.; Edward W., of Altoona, Pa.; B. A., Hollidaysburg, Pa., and G. G., at Newry, on a farm, the old homestead. One sister, Gertrude, is a twin to her brother B.A. William Stansbury Baker was married to Cecelia McCartney, a daughter of Alan and Anna Elizabeth McCartney, natives of Blair County, Pa. They were married at Altoona, Pa. Mrs. Baker's mother before marriage was Anna Elizabeth Cox, daughter of Rev. S. M. and Nancy Cox, of near Bellwood, Pa. Mrs. Baker has one brother, J.C. McCartney, Claysville, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. G. W. Wagner, St. Louis, Mo. Alan Coleman McCartney is a grandson of the old Indian hunter. The Indians called him Colie. He was a machinist at Altoona, Pa. He is living at Alexandria, Pa. His wife died in 1928, at the age of seventy-four years. Mr. and Mrs. Baker have the following children: Victor W. is a coal dealer at Milroy, Pa. He is a twin to Donald Allen, deceased. Elizabeth Ann is a music supervisor at Montrose, Montgomery County, Pa. Margaret Jean, eleven years, in sixth grade at school and Alan Barkley, fourteen years of age.
