EDWARD M. BEERS Mount Union, Pa. Member of Congress: The position of prominence now held by the Honorable Edward M. Beers was not obtained by easy work, but by a desire to go forward and upward; ambition was not lacking and he has succeeded in no small way. At present he represents at Washington the Eighteenth Congressional District, comprising the following counties: Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Snyder, and Union. Eight counties, with a population in 1920 of 213,497. Was Mayor of Mount Union, Associate Judge of Huntingdon County from 1914 to 1923. Engaged in agriculture, owns a farm in suburbs of Mount Union; formerly engaged in livery business, successfully conducted the Beers Hotel, strictly dry at a time when saloons flourished. Born at Nossville, Huntingdon County, Pa., May 27, 1877. Sons of Anderson Beers, his mother being Mary E. (Parsons) Beers. Representative Beers is a Republican and has supported measures that are beneficial to the nation at large. Is on following Congressional Committees: War Claims, Invalid Pensions, District of Columbia, Printing; Chairman of these committees. Married to Iva Clariss Ewing, of Mount Union; have one son, Cloyd, attending the Mount Union High School. First elected to Sixty-eighth Congress, November 7th, 1922. Director Grange Trust Company, Huntingdon, Pa. Director First National Bank, Mount Union. Member of Methodist Church, Mount Union. His activities have been varied.
