Merchant: Born at Union Church, Huntingdon County, Pa. A son of Joseph and Mary (Decker) Bergantz. Joseph Bergantz's father was John L. Bergantz, of Henderson Township, Huntingdon Co., Pa., who was born in Huntingdon, Pa. His grandfather was Louis Bergantz, born near Strasburg, Province of Alsace, France, on August 15, 1818. Both Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bergantz now reside in Huntingdon, Pa., at 1214 Mifflin street. Edgar Lloyd Bergantz attended the public schools of Union township, and later advanced his education at Juniata College, graduating in 1904, business course. He accepted a position with the Penna. R.R. at Pittsburgh, Pa., in the claim department, and then was transferred to the cashier's department, also as statistic clerk, making a period of ten years with this company. After returning from Pittsburgh he engaged in farming for a period of six years. He was manager of the Huntingdon Wholesale Grocery Company for two years. He built a large business establishment at the corner of Sixtenth and Mifflin streets. Conducts a grocery, dry goods, ladies;, children's and gents' furnishings; also meats and provisions. He built the Bergantz Apartments, thoroughly modern, with all conveniences, on Moore street, near Juniata College. He belongs to the A.F. and A.M., St. John's, No. 34, Huntingdon, Pa.; I.O.O.F., Juniata 117; the P.O.S. of A., Camp 321; P.O.S. of A., No. 265; the Commandery Military Branch, P.O.S. of A.; The A.A.A. and Chamber of Commerce. A Democrat with a big D. He was married to Cora Silknitter, a daughter of Solomon and Caroline Silknitter.
