L. BOWSER Brady Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. Service Station: H. L. Bowser is the pioneer in the service station business, and the first in Brady township. He first established a station in Big Valley in 1902, when automobiles were in their infancy. He branched out in the business, about a quarter of a mile from his first venture, and erected another station in 1924, at a beautiful location; has built neat tourist rooms, with conveniences, carries a line of tourist and camp supplies, soft drinks, etc., ample parking space. H. L. Bowser was born in Juniata township, Huntingdon Co., Pa., March 11, 1890; he was but six years old when his mother died; she was but thirty-eight years of age at her death; her name before marriage was Mary Smith. James Bowser was his father; he died in 1927, at the age of eight- six years. H. L. Bowser received his early schooling in Juniata township, Huntingdon Co., Pa.; at the Lone Star School. He afterwards attended the Centre School, and the Smokers School, Mill Creek, Pa., followed up by instruction at the Altoona Grade School. He belongs to the Lutheran church, wife also, Mill Creek, Pa. A Republican. He has five brothers: William, Alexandria, Pa.; Andrew, Mill Creek, Pa.; Irvin, Westmoreland Co., Pa.; John, Mill Creek. Sisters are: Nannie McKinney; Maud, Westmoreland Co.; Elizabeth, Mapleton, Pa.; Mina, Mill Creek; Emma D., Brady township. One brother, Charles, deceased. H. L. Bowser was married to Florence Cramer, a daughter of Robert and Mary Cramer. Their children are as follows: Guy, Lee, Jay; Daughters are: Pearl, Helen and Betty Jane. Jay Harold, Pauline Irene, and George, are deceased. Note: First name from 1930 census.
