CHILCOTE Rock Hill Furnace, Pa. Superintendent: Climbing up step by step, and one comes to a pinnacle of success. Such has been the career of Luden K. Chilcote, the present Superintendent of the East Broad Top R.R. and Coal Company. A general knowledge of all the ramifications of this business has enabled him to succeed. He was born at Orbisonia, Pa., on September 5, 1878, a son of Edmund B. and Margaret J. (Buchanan) Chilcote. The father is deceased, the mother residing at Rock Hill Furnace. In the public schools of Orbisonia he began his early training, and continued on, reaching the higher grades. In 1895 he was a graduated from the Bedford Classical Academy. Taught for years in country schools, after which he affiliated himself with the East Broad Top R.R. in 1898, beginning as warehouse man, agent at Robertsdale, clerk in Superintendent's office, trainmaster, Terminal Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for twenty-two years, and accepted the Superintendency of the road September 1, 1921. During his administration the road has been very successful. Luden Chilcote acted as President of the Board of Health of Mount Union for fifteen years, a Trustee for fifteen years of the Presbyterian Church of Mount Union, Pa., one term as Councilman at Mount Union, Director of Central National Bank, Mount Union, Pa. Belongs to Masonic Lodge, 688, Mount Union, Pa., and other Masonic bodies. Affiliates himself with the Republican party. Has two brothers: Clarence V., Wilmerding, Pa.; Howard E., Pittsburgh, Pa. He was married to Essie Lamberson, of Orbisonia, Pa. Have three daughters: Isabelle, married to John W. Corson; Christine, at Juniata College; Phyllis, at home. He is a member of the Country Club of Mount Union, Pa. Plays golf and enjoys other outdoor sports. A remarkable record achieved by perseverance.
