CRAMER Mount Union, Pa. Chief of Police: Was born at Emmetsburg, Maryland, August 3, 1884. Here the Confederates were headed off on their march to Chambersburg, Pa., to reinforce the Confederate Army. A son of James H. Cramer, who died in 1896, a flagman and extra conductor of the P.R.R., Altoona, Pa., and of Nina (McGlaherty) Cramer, who died in September, 1896, and born in Ireland. Two days' difference in death. Claude P. Cramer received his early training at the Altoona Grade and High School, and at Anderson's Night School in 1895. A general course of training. For six years was a Constable and Deputy Sheriff at Newton Hamilton, Mifflin County, Pa. Came to Mount Union, Pa., as police officer at the time of the murder of Charles McConahy and the wounding of two other officers. He helped to bring order out of chaos. Served in the Spanish-American War in the Navy, on battleships Raleigh and Oregon, under Admiral Dewey in 1898, and for duration of the war as first class seaman. He is Independent in politics; served on County Committee, Mifflin County, Pa. Belongs to the Methodist Church, as does also his wife. He formerly was Treasurer. Is an Odd Fellow, No. 466, and Junior O.U.A.M., No. 453, and to the State Police Association; also Sheriff and Police Officers' Association of America. Has three sisters, Alice, married to Harvey Chase, of Parksley, Virginia; Edith, married to Phillip Hoffman, Los Angeles, California, and Pearl, of Harrisburg, Pa. Claude Cramer was married to Effie Palmer, of Newton Hamilton, Pa. Children are: Marie, married to John Piper, Detroit, Michigan. He is deceased, died September 29, 1929; Thos. Leroy and Max, Mount Union High School, and Martha, Junior High; Marlyn, aged twelve years. A son died in infancy. Hunting is his chief favorite sport.
