H. CRIST Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. Fireman: J. H. Crist was born at North Bend, Clinton County, Pa., July 28, 1899. A son of John W. Crist and Ellen (Strain) Crist, both deceased. J. H. Crist received his early schooling at Summerfield School, Somerset County, Pa., and finished the course at the Confluence Grade School. He was with the Aetna Explosive Company, Mount Union, for ten months; followed various occupations. At present is a fireman with the Tuscarora Oil Company at their pumping station at Aughwick, Huntingdon County, Pa. Has been with this company for four years. He has three brothers: Oliver, Lancaster, Pa.; William, Canton, Ohio, with Timken Roller Bearing Company, as Chief Inspector. He was married to Alice Rolls. Charles, Philadelphia, Pa., with the Atlantic Refining Company; married to Lucy Smith. J. H. Crist is a World War veteran. He enlisted at Huntingdon, Pa.; sent to Camp Lee, Virginia; sailed for France on Transport (Princess Matokoka); arrived at Brest, France; from there to Coun, France; in training; then to Jason Court; to St. Mihel in action in trenches; went to Meuse Argonne; again in action; at this place for about one month. Armistice signed; returned on (Antigone), a transport, twelve days on voyage; landed at Hoboken, New Jersey; to embarkation Hospital No. 103; was in hospital for one week; also in France; in hospital at Beawne, France, for two weeks; discharged at Camp Dix. He has lived on McKinstry farm, in Shirley Township, for twenty years.
