CRONE Shirleysburg, Pa. Steward, Huntingdon County Home: The subject of this sketch was born in Shirley Township, July 14, 1873. A son of David P. Crone, and Susanna (King) Crone, of Shirley Township, of German descent, American born. Both are deceased. Wm. H. Crone received his early schooling at the public schools of Shirley Township. For twenty-five years he was engaged in the marketing of lumber, ties, mine props, etc., and for three years was clerk to the Poor Directors of Huntingdon County, after which he was appointed Steward, which position he now holds, having served for eleven years. The County Home has been remodeled with an expenditure of $40,000.00, and to-day contains a family of thirty-one males and twenty females. He has at various times served on the election board and on Shirleysburg council. He is a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 122, Huntingdon, Pa. He has one brother, Samuel D., at Aughwick, and one sister, Bathilda B., of the same place. William H. Crone was married to Alma Pearl Pecht, of Aughwick, Huntingdon County, Pa. They have two daughters, Thelma M., married to Paul F. Collins, a son of Rev. John C. Collins, of Williamsport, Pa., and Mary, attending school. Mr. and Mrs. Crone are well adapted to look after the wards of the county, and they are well and favorably known. Mr. Crone's favorite sport is baseball, of which he is an enthusiast.
