Assistant Yardmaster: Hiram DeHuff is well and favorably known among the residents of Huntingdon and this section, and principally among the railroad fraternity. His forefathers came from Alsace Lorraine, France. Hiram DeHuff was born at Huntingdon, Pa., July 15, 1870, and in both Huntingdon and Mifflintown he received his early education. His father was killed in a railroad accident in 1880; his mother was Mary E. (Sharrer) DeHuff, of Huntingdon, Pa. Early in life, at the age of twelve years, he began to work, beginning with the Western Union Telegraph Company; remained for a period of fourteen years, becoming a telegraph operator. Commenced his employment with the P.R.R. in 1886; was assistant yardmaster for two years, and assistant trainmaster for fifteen years, with a service of forty-three years with the company. Belongs to the Lutheran Church. Has served on election board. Is a Mason, Mount Moriah Lodge; Huntingdon Club. Has two brothers: George F., of Harrisburg, married to Anna Moser; Stewart M., Connellsville, Pa., married to Ida Weller. Sisters: Mary, married to Joseph Simpson, Philadelphia, Pa., deceased; Carrie, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; Ethel, aged thirty at death in 1917; Edwin F., deceased, aged twenty-eight years. Hiram DeHuff was married to Louise Bert, daughter of the late George D. Bert, Assistant Superintendent, Huntingdon Reformatory. One daughter, Harriet L., instructor among schools of Pittsburgh, along lines of work having to do with librarians. Formerly was Assistant Librarian at Carnegie Library, Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. DeHuff is an agreeable gentleman and well posted in his work.
