A. DETWILER Three Springs, Pa. Rural Mail Carrier: Born August 4, 1884, at Waterfall, Fulton Co., Pa. His early schooling at the place of his birth. A son of S. F. Detwiler, who was burned to death, together with his son Rufus, aged twelve years, and his daughter May, aged four years. This occurred March 3, 1900; he was forty- five years of age. His wife was Mary Edwards, who died April, 1910, aged fifty-six. M. A. Detwiler later in life was employed with the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, Pittsburgh, Pa. In July, 1905, he was appointed a letter carrier, R.F.D., and has successfully filled this position ever since. His wife, daughter and he belong to the Methodist Church and Sunday School. During the World War was a mail carrier and also owned a farm. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity. Cromwell Lodge, No. 572, Orbisonia, Pa.; Harrisburg Consistory; a Shriner, Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.; also belongs to I.O.O.F., No. 590, Three Springs, Pa. A Republican. Has two brothers: George, married Ruth Huffman, Saltillo, Pa.; J. S., Springfield, Ohio, manager of life insurance company. One brother deceased, Luther, thirty-seven years of age. He has one sister, Clara, married to Harry Jones, Springfield, Ohio, a carpenter. He was married to Viola Stevens, a daughter of J. Bart and Anne Stevens, of Clear Ridge, Fulton Co., Pa. They have one daughter, Annalee, who finished grade school, Three Springs, Pa., and graduated from the Orbisonia High School. Attends Juniata College, music and general course.
