EBERLY Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. Retired: He was born at Table Rock, Adams County, Pa., October 25, 1861. A son of John Eberly, who was a shoemaker for practically all his life. Died in 1879, at the age of forty-four years. He married Isabel Wolfe; she, too, is deceased; died in 1924. Charles F. Eberly was born on a farm, six miles from Gettysburg, Pa., and the date of his birth was the year of the outbreak of the Civil War. He attended the Arendtsville, Adams County, public schools, and other schools of the county. He has been a farmer, and is a shoemaker by trade, and has been employed by the State Highway Department for six years. He was a road supervisor for two years. He belongs to the Lutheran church, and his wife is a member of the Nebo United Brethren church. He was a Spanish-American War Volunteer. Enlisted in the Eighth Penna. Vol. Inf., Co. A, stationed at York; his regiment first went to Mount Gretna; to Camp Russel A. Alger, Falls Church, Virginia; to Harrisburg, Pa., and from there to Augusta, Georgia. He was mustered out at that place, March 7, 1899; had a snow fall of eight inches; snowed for thirty-six hours. He previously was in the Fifth U.S. Cavalry for five years, stationed in Oklahoma, one hundred miles to nearest railroad. He is a Democrat in politics. He has two brothers: Edward L., Altoona, Pa., married to Annie Burns; George, Gettysburg, Pa. One brother, Jacob, deceased; also one sister is deceased, Alice Cook. Charles F. Eberly was married to Jennie Snyder, a daughter of Latimer and Isabel Snyder. Mr. and Mrs. Eberly have one son, Nestor L., married to Edna Park, of Three Springs. Pa. He is a night watchman for the U.S. Refractories Company, at their stone quarries.
