GILLILAND Marklesburg, Pa. Merchant: A son of Luther and Anna (Scott) Gilliland. The daughter of George and Elizabeth Scott, of Charter Oak, Huntingdon County, Pa. The father died in 1917, aged sixty-two years. The mother died in 1924, aged sixty-six years. They lived at Neff's Mills. Thomas B. Gilliland was born at Altoona, Pa., February 5, 1888, and at Manor Hill he began his first schooling; later on attended the schools of McAlevy's Fort, for one term; also took a course in dairying at State College, Centre County, Pa. Accepted position at ice cream plant at Tyrone, Pa.; was there for four years, and then to Bedford, Pa., at milk plant, and at Harrisburg, Pa., for two months. He then accepted a position at the State Capitol Building, Harrisburg, Pa., Department of Forestry and Water. Both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Church. Was inspector on election board for two terms, and clerk for one term. During the World War, enlisted at Huntingdon, Pa.; sent to Camp Lee, July 23, 1918; there for five months; then to Camp Hill, Newport News, Va.; in Veterinary Corps; discharged May 21, 1919. Mr. Gilliland is a member of the L.O.O.M., No. 25, Tyrone; P.O.S. of A. Camp, No. 769, Marklesburg, Pa., and Lincoln Grange, Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. Is a Democrat. He has two brothers: Joseph H., married to Edna Blanche Moffett, Pennsylvania Furnace, Huntingdon County, Pa.; Oscar, married to Nannie Baumgardner, Franklinville, Huntingdon County, Pa. One sister, Ada G., Harrisburg, Pa. One sister, Carrie, died in 1929, aged fifty years. Thomas B. Gilliland was married to Bertha Houser, of Petersburg, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Mary Houser; the father is retired. Mr. Gilliland conducts a meat and provision business and has built up a large business.
