ALDAN RUCKMAN GRIER, A.M. Birmingham, Pa. President: The Birmingham School; Academic and Preparatory School. An educator of long standing. Educational environment. His father, Dr. L. G. Grier, of Lafayette College, was founder, succeeded in 1887 by his son, Aldan R. Grier, and continuously since; seventy years under same guidance; surroundings beautiful beyond description. A fairy land, a Garden of the Gods. School has special telegraph and telephone service. Eminent personages have entertained students and faculty, such as John Kendrick Banks, John Cowper Powys, Hamlin Garland and others of more or less renown. Dr. Aldan Ruckman Grier was born at Birmingham, Huntingdon County, Pa. Preliminary schooling at this institution, founded by his father. Dr. Lemuel G. Grier, of Scotch Irish extraction, who died in 1887, aged fifty- six years, and of Sarah (Boileau) Grier, of French descent, who died in 1907, age seventy-five years. Aldan Ruckman Grier is a Princeton man, that Gibraltar of Presbyterianism, and of the University of Pennsylvania. Belongs to National Educational Association, Association of Preparatory Schools, Middle States. Activities, Chamber of Commerce of Tyrone, Pa.; Penna. Club, of New York; Juniata Valley Country Club, Blairmont and Altoona Cricket Clubs, Altoona, Pa. A Presbyterian, Trustee for thirty years. Takes an interest in community affairs; Councilman thirty years. Married to Mary Campbell, Altoona, Pa. They have two sons, Aldan Ruckman, at home, in business, and Thomas Campbell, Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Grier recreated this institution, which has an enviable name in fields of educational endeavor.
