Farmer: He was born at Orbisonia, Pa., April 19, 1896. A son of A.O. Grove. He married Linna Hicks, and both reside in Shirley Township as retired farmers. Oliver Grove attended the Rock Hill grade schools. He has been a farmer a good part of his life; at present is farming three hundred and sixty-nine acres. He owns in his own right sixty-two acres. He has been at his present location since 1915. He is a World War veteran, and enlisted at Huntingdon, Pa., June 5, 1918; was sent to Camp Lee, Va., and assigned to 51st Depot Brigade. Left for Norfolk, Va.; embarked on German interned vessel (Manataska); on going over there was a convoy of fourteen transports, with sixteen submarine chasers accompanying this convoy. Two airplanes from France met them prior to landing. Was fourteen days on water; arrived at Brest, France; went to Napoleon Barracks; there for three days; thence to Le Mons to Mayet, to machine gun school for one month; to an English rest camp at E.U.; there for one week; left for Corbie, October 1, 1918, and assigned to Co. B. 106 Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. His company was a replacement unit. At this place were found the Hindenberg Smashers, they who pushed back the Hindenberg line. Armistice was signed, went to Conneree, France; left for Brest, France, March 5th, 1919, on battleship (Missouri); was thirteen days coming over; landed at New York; there for one week; was in the 27th division parade in New York City, March 14, 1919; went to Camp Merritt; there for one week thence to Camp Dix, New Jersey, for discharge, with a service of from July 23, 1918, to April 3, 1919. Had three submarine attacks going over. Mr. and Mrs. Grove belong to the Presbyterian Church of Mount Union, Pa. He belongs to the American Legion, Simpson Hunt Post, Mount Union, Pa. A Republican. He has four brothers: James, married to Florence Grasmire, Lewistown, Pa.; Charles, married to Alice Peterson, Mount Union, Pa.; Lester, Lewistown, Pa.; Phillip, at home. One brother died in infancy. Sisters are, Elizabeth Collins, Altoona, Pa.; Alice Price, Petersburg, Pa. He was married to Susan Goshorn, a daughter of Samuel and Ellen Goshorn. The mother is deceased, the father living. They have three sons, George, nine years of age; Roy, eight years; Ralph, two years; one daughter, Grace, seven years.
