Commercial Representative: Robert Hays comes of a military ancestry; his grandfather was Dr. David S. Hays, Surgeon-in-Chief, Army of the Potomac during Civil War days. Robert Hays, the subject of this sketch, was born at Hollidaysburg, Blair County, October 6, 1907. A son of Charles F. Hays, with the Penna R.R. as stockman, in charge of storehouse; has been for twenty-three years; his mother is Mary (Swoope) Hays. The parents are of Scotch-Irish descent. Both are residing at Altoona, Pa. Robert Hays received his first schooling at Hollidaysburg, finished the grade schools, entered Altoona High School, graduated in class of 1927. For a time was with the Callahan Brokerage Company, in a clerical capacity, in 1927. Entered the employ of the Bell Telephone Company at Huntingdon, Pa., as commercial representative; has been with company for fifteen months, succeeding W. H. Gieg, who was transferred to Lewistown, Pa. He belongs to the First Presbyterian Church of Altoona, Pa.; is Treasurer of Sunday School Class; his parents are Presbyterians. During World War was a student at the Hollidaysburg Schools. He has one sister, Doris, at Columbus, Ga., a kindergarten teacher. Football is his sport. Robert Hays is a young man in the business world, with a brilliant future before him.
