Retired: Henry Hoffman was born November 17, 1860, at Petersburg, Pa. A son of John L. Hoffman, who was with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company for thirty-three years; was assistant foreman; he died March 10, 1882, at the age of sixty-eight years. He was married to Sabina Wagner, who is also deceased; died in 1890, at the age of seventy-two years; both came from Germany. Henry Hoffman began his school career at the grade schools of Petersburg, Pa. He worked at Madisonburg, Centre County, Pa., at foundry moulding, after which he accepted a position with the Penna. R.R. as trackman, which position he held for twelve years, after which he was promoted to foreman, for thirty-five years, making forty-seven years' service with the company. He has been retired since 1927. He is Burgess of Petersburg, serving a four-year term. He belongs to the Lutheran Church; his wife also; he has held the office of deacon. He is a member of the Penna. System Fraternity., No.9, Mount Union, Pa. A Democrat. He has three sisters. Mary was married to John McCarty; both are deceased; she was 72 years old at death. Margaret E. Hoffman is also deceased; died at the age of fifty-two years. Annie was married to William Anderson; both are deceased; she died at the age of fifty-eight years. Henry Hoffman was married to Annie E. Graffius, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Graffius; both are deceased; they resided on a farm near Petersburg, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman have four sons: John Leonard, married to Ethel Stryker; Charles Morrow, married to Luella Archey, Petersburg, Pa.; he was a First Sergeant in the World War, overseas. Frank Henry, married to Sylvia Anderson, Altoona, Pa.; he was with the Sixth Division Artillery, World War, overseas; Walter Biddle, married to Florence Brooks, Petersburg, Pa.; in World War, balloon service, overseas. Two daughters, Sabina, a graduate nurse, University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., married to Chester Tyson, Narberth, Pa.; Jane Elizabeth, married to Ernest Dixon, Petersburg, Pa. with Pennsylvania Railroad Company.
