Foreman: Walter Hoffman was born at Petersburg, Pa., June 8, 1898. A son of Henry Hoffman and of Annie (Graffius) Hoffman. The father is a retired Penna. R.R. foreman; both reside at Petersburg, Pa. Walter Hoffman attended the Petersburg Grade Schools; commenced with the Penna. R.R. at the age of eighteen years; he has been with the company for fourteen years. At present is foreman with the floating gang, between Bellwood and Huntingdon, Pa. He is a World War veteran; enlisted as a volunteer at Lewistown, Pa. March 12, 1918; went to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; was there for one week, sent to San Antonio, Texas; there for two weeks; went to Hampton Roads, Va.; embarked on (Siboney), a transport; on water for fourteen days; landed at Brest, France; went to rest camp for two days; left for Lanchestine, a training camp for balloonists; observation training there for one month; left for Chateau Thierry front; there for three days; left for Toul front; was in action; then on to Verdun front; in action again, continuing on to the Meuse Argonne; also in action; again in action at Stenay, France, when Armistice was signed; was there for one week; left for LaBourne; there for two weeks; then homeward bound, on (Susquehanna); was fourteen days returning; landed at Hampton Roads, Va.; discharged at Camp Lee, Va., May 12, 1919, with a total service of fourteen months; was in 8th Balloon Co. He is a member of the Lutheran Church; is Financial Secretary; his wife also is a member. He belongs to the Cloyd K. Davis American Legion Post, No. 150, Petersburg, Pa.; also the 40 and 8, an auxiliary of the American Legion. He has served on the election boards at Petersburg; he believes in the doctrines of the Democratic party. He was married to Florence Brooks, a daughter of Robert and Martha Brooks; both reside at Petersburg, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman have one son, Robert Henry Hoffman, born on a historic day, July 4, 1927; a daughter, Marjorie Ellen Hoffman, died in infancy.
