J. HOOVER Three Springs, Pa. Merchant: E. J. Hoover was born at Hustontown, Fulton Co., Pa., November 3, 1881, and at Hustontown received his education. John Hoover was his father, now living at Hustontown, Pa. His mother was Annie (Huston) Hoover, deceased, 1927. Hustontown was named after Annie Huston's grandfather. Mr. J. E. Huston previously was a shipping clerk, with the P.R.R. at Pitcairn, Pa., for nine years; was also in hardware store for nine years, at Superior, Wisconsin. At present is partner and manager of the Charles Huston & Bros.' store at Three Springs. This is one of the largest department stores in the county, if not the largest. Three floors of space are devoted to this business, consisting of a general line of furniture, clothing, shoes, house furnishings, dry goods, groceries, builders' supplies, hardware, etc. The business was established eighteen years ago. Mr. Hoover has been associated with this firm for the past fourteen years. He was for nine years Secretary to Council. Superintended the installing of the water company for the Borough of Three Springs. Belongs to I.O.O.F., Three Springs, No. 790. A Republican. Has four brothers: S. M., at Buffalo, N.Y.; N. E., at Hustontown, Editor Fulton Democrat; Charles, merchant, married to Dot Dishong, Hustontown; William, a lawyer, Chicago, Ill. One sister, Edna, married to Eugene Chestnut, McConnellsburg, Pa. Mr. E. J. Hoover was married to Mildred Mathias, of Hustontown, Pa. They have three sons: Paul, at New York University; Noel, married to Nora Watkins, Saltillo, Pa.; Emmet, associated with his father in business; one daughter deceased, aged nine months. Note: Edward (49) Merchant, General Store, Mildred (49), Emmitt (21) and Lodema, daughter-in-law (19), are listed in the 1930 Clay Township, Huntingdon County census.
