HEBER HARRISON HUMMEL Mapleton Depot, Pa. United Brethren Minister: A minister of the gospel that has gained the confidence of his congregation, and the community in general, is that of the Rev. Heber Harrison Hummel. He began his ministerial teaching early in life. He was born in Franklin Township, Snyder County, August 4, 1902. He began his early education at Gilberts School, Franklin Township, Snyder County, Pa. A son of William E. and Gertrude E. (Gift) Hummel, of Middleburg, Pa. American born. His educational work is as follows: Graduated Middleburg High School, 1920; Lebanon Valley College, 1923-24; Susquehanna University (College Dept) in spring, 1921; also summer of 1922 and 1927. Theological Seminary of Susquehanna University, 1925; graduated, 1928. He taught school in Franklin Township, Snyder Co., Pa.; Eardley's School two terms, 1920-22; Gilbert's School, one term, 1922-23. Received appointment at Middleburg charge, there for four years, 1924-28; called to Mapleton charge, 1928. He is a class leader, Sunday School Secretary, Director Young Peoples' Work, Sunday School teacher, and the United Brethren minister in charge. He is a Republican at primaries, and for the best man at the general election. Has one sister, Mrs. Fannie L. Spigelmyer, of Middleburg, Pa., President Middleburg High School Alumni Association; served as member Susquehanna University Alumni Association. Delights in baseball. Rev. Hummel is a young man in the ministry, was raised on a farm, has succeeded in building up the church through his efforts and the future holds out a brilliant career for him. He was married to Vera A. Walters, a daughter of H.A. and Rosa Walters, of Snyder Co., Pa. Rev. and Mrs. Hummel have one son, Marvin, two years of age.
