Justice of the Peace: Was born at Pennsylvania Furnace, April 26, 1876. He began his schooling at Huntingdon, Pa., at the Second Ward school; he was raised on the farm, and assisted his father with various work usually to be done around the farm. A son of Samuel H. Irvin, who was from 1878 to 1881 the Sheriff of Huntingdon County, Pa. He was a Civil War veteran, a First Lieutenant, Co. B, 49th Pa. Vol. Inf.; died in 1903, aged sixty-two years. His wife was Maria Glazier, who died in 1911, aged sixty-nine years. Both sides of the family were Scotch-Irish. John Edgar Irvin attended the Stone Valley Academy; he was rural mail carrier for one year, and twelve years with the State Department of Highways; operated a threshing machine for many years, and has been Justice of the Peace for ten years. All the family belong to the Methodist church. He served two terms as School Director; also on election board; member of Huntingdon County Republican Committee. He was a Spanish-American War veteran, Co. A, 5th Penna. Vo. Inf., Capt Bare for company and Colonel Burchfield for regiment. He contracted fever and was sent home on furlough. He belongs to the Knights of Pythias, No. 295, at Huntingdon, Pa. A Republican. His brothers are: George M., married to Nettie Kocher, Altoona, Pa.; Alfred T., Altoona, Pa.; James H., Pittsburgh, Pa., died May 29, 1929, married to Henrietta Green. His sisters are: Cora M. Lamberson, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Annie K., married to John C. Bigelow, Spruce Creek, Pa.; Margaret B. Irvin, Philadelphia, Pa.; Bessie E. Irvin, died in 1927, aged forty-eight years. John Edgar Irvin was married to Eva D. Thompson, of McAlevy's Fort, Huntingdon Co., Pa. Their children are: Harold W., married to Ruth Longenecker, of Altoona, Pa.; Walter M., at home; Samuel H., married to Grace Reigh, of Altoona, Pa.; Hester M., at home; Nina H. graduate nurse of Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.; Irene, at home. Mr. Irvin conducts a confectionery and restaurant business is a first-class citizen and well respected.
