Walter Jenkins was born in Mount Union, Pa., June 11, 1880; he is now deceased, having died May 23, 1926; second son of John and Rhoda Jenkins. He attended the Mount Union public schools until the age of fourteen years; securing employment with the DeFrehn Chair Factory, where he remained for six years; in 1901 he entered the employ of the Harbison-Walker Refractories Co. of Mount Union, Pa.; in the shipping department he remained for five years, after which he was appointed a foreman, and held this position until sickness compelled him to relinquish it. He was thoroughly posted in this line of work, being very conversant with every detail that goes with the carrying on of this business. He was esteemed by those whom he had in charge, and the company respected his ability and faithfulness. He was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School; was on the Board of Stewards and active in all that pertained to its behalf. He belonged to the Patriotic Order Sons of America; was loyal and patriotic; and of the Sons of Veterans. In politics he was a Republican, and was a borough Auditor in the Second Ward of Mount Union. He died after a lingering illness, still clinging to the Rock of Ages with a hope that death does not end all.
