JONES Mount Union, Pa. Manager Shaffer Store: Born in Shade Valley, on a patriotic day, July 4, 1888, a son of the late Alonzo W. Jones, a Civil war veteran, who served in Company I, 149th Regiment, Penna. Vol. He was postmaster at Mount Union, Pa.; a Constable; County Commissioner; engaged in the meat and provision business; died November 27, 1916, aged 67 years; his wife died March 1, 1930, aged 73 years. Carson W. Jones began his educational career at the Mount Union High School, graduated in 1909; attended Juniata College, taking the teachers' course. Taught three years, in Shirley township. Was for seven years a foreman with the Harbison-Walker Brick Co., Mount Union, Pa.; at present is manager Shaffer Store, one of a chain of many stores; was manager of Oriole Store seven years. Served in the World War; enlisted at Penn State College, January 29, 1918; served one year, with the Ordnance Department in France, and nine months in training camp in this country. In France he served as a convoy with second Ordnance Battalion. Discharged from service at Camp Dix,, New Jersey, July 23, 1919. In August, 1927, he and his wife sailed for Paris to attend the American Legion Convention, he as a delegate from the Eighteenth District; while there visited all American cemeteries where homage was paid to the war dead, after which they visited England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland. Mr. Jones belongs to the Masonic Fraternity, Huntingdon, Pa., No. 300, Mount Moriah; a Shriner, Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.; Harrisburg Consistory. A very active man in the American Legion. A Past Commander, Simpson Hunt Post, No. 107, Mount Union, Pa. Belongs to Mount Union Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Juniata Country Club. A Democrat, and has served on the election board. Methodists, both he and wife; a steward; attends Sunday School. He has three brothers: Decker, a foreman of the Mount Union Preserving Company; Dr. Charles Jones, Summerhill, Cambria Co., Pa.; Roy, a banker, Wyalusing, Pa. Sisters are: Minnie, Mount Union, Pa.; Mae, married to Harold Shope, a banker, Mount Union, Pa. Carson Jones was married to Gladys Gracey, a daughter of Samuel and Hannah Gracey, of Mount Union, Pa., formerly of Fulton Co., Pa.
