Merchant: John Marshall Jones was born in Shade Valley, May 19, 1884, on a farm. He remained on the farm until his fifteenth year, when the family moved to Mount Union, in 1900. He is a son of George Dean Jones; he was Civil War veteran, in Co. G, 51st Regiment Penna. Volunteer Infantry; he is deceased; died at the age of eighty-three years; he married Margaret Yocum; she is deceased, having died at the age of seventy-nine years. John Marshall Jones attended the public schools of Mount Union, Pa., after which he accepted a position with the Harbison-Walker Refractories Co. He remained with this company for a period of four years. He then was put in charge of their mercantile establishment at Mount Union, Pa.; known as the Vulcan Trading Co. With this concern he remained for fifteen years. He then branched out into the business world for himself; in 1921 he erected for himself a modern business place with apartments on Jefferson street. He is engaged in the grocery and provision business, and has established a fast increasing business. He served as a member of Council, representing the Third Ward from 1914 to 1918; a member of the Methodist Episcopal church; his wife also; his politics is Republican. During the World War he was engaged in business. He has brothers: George M. is living at Eldred, McKean Co., Pa.; he is a farmer and dairyman; Charles, of Mount Union, is engaged in the meat and provision business. His sisters are Mrs. Mary Long, Altoona, Pa., and Mrs. George Clark, Mount Union, Pa. Two deceased sisters, Mrs. Matilda Bollinger and Mrs. John Miller; both resided at Huntingdon, Pa. John Marshall Jones married Minnie Bowserman in 1903; she was a daughter of D.K. and Belle Bowserman; both are deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Jones have on daughter, Veida; she is married to Charles Pagana; they have one daughter, Wanda. Mr. Jones is a representative citizen of Mount Union. Hunting and fishing is his delight. He is a member of the Camp Jerry Rod and Club.
