KEAN Alexandria, Pa. Postmaster: Was born at Alexandria, Huntingdon County, Pa., August 13, 1869. A son of Peter and Annie (Hamer) Kean, both deceased. John B. Kean has spent all his life in Huntingdon County. The Alexandria Grade Schools were his first schooling. For five years was clerk with Phillips & Son at Alexandria, Pa., after which he bought out the firm of Phillips & Son and established a partnership, trading as Kane & Spyker; he afterwards was a salesman on the road for five years; then resumed the mercantile business. For eleven years has been postmaster at Alexandria, Pa., receiving the appointment under the Wilson administration. Was County Auditor for a term of four years; an Income Tax Collector; Special Deputy, 1917; was School Director and Secretary of School Board; also Secretary of Council of Alexandria, Pa. During the World War was Register of Draft Board, Justice of the Peace, and Notary Public. A member of the Methodist Church; a Trustee, Sunday School Treasurer and formerly Superintendent. Belongs to the Masonic Fraternity, Mount Moriah Chapter, No. 300; also Modern Woodmen of America. Is non-partisan in politics. Has one brother, George H., of Alexandria, Pa. One sister, Annie Roper, of New Kensington, Pa. Mr. John B. Kean was married to Lena Lankard. One son, Milton D., married to Mary Beatty, of Sunbury, Pa., with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. One daughter, Ruth, married to Roy M. Shirk, Altoona, Pa. Patrons' wants are carefully attended to under his administration.
