ELMER ELLSWORTH KELL Shade Gap, Pa. Instructor: If experience is a criterion, then Prof. Elmer Ellsworth Kell stands in the front rank. He has taught school for forty-four years - some record. Prof. Kell was born at Upper Strasburg, Franklin County, Pa., September 16, 1864, and in the Orrstown graded schools he began learning that which afterwards molded his career. His parents are both deceased; of English descent. After some years he attended the grade schools; he entered Shippensburg Normal in 1880; Bucknell University, 1908; and Susquehanna University, 1909. Has a record of twenty-two years as teacher of the Orbisonia High School. In Fulton County eight years; Shade Gap seven years; Franklin County, seven years. During his spare time and during vacation, he manages his farm, writes life insurance, and sells school goods. He has clerked four years in a store at Roxbury, Franklin County, Pa., and was a School Director in Dublin township, Huntingdon County, Pa.; serving on School Board at present in Dublin Township; has served on election board at Roxbury, Franklin County, and Shade Gap Borough. Votes the Republican ticket straight. One brother, James P. Kell, retired, Shady Grove, Franklin County, Pa. The following are deceased; J. A. Kell, of Chambersburg; Emma Zullinger, Orrstown; Katharine Rebuck, Orrstown, and Muna Kell, Orrstown, Pa. Prof. Kell was married to Tillie Cecelia Neil, of Spring Run, Pa. Children are James A. Kell, Greensburg, Pa.; Lela E. Jeffries, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Kate Baldwin, Burnt Cabins, Pa.; Ruth Galbraith, Orbisonia, Pa.; Minnie and Madeline are deceased. He is a member of the Patrons of Husbandry, known as the Grange. Teaching has been his specialty, and year after year finds him acquiring more knowledge.
