MOSES A. KIEFFER, A.B., A.M., B.D. Alexandria, Pa. Minister, Reformed Church: Going back to the years of 1839 to 1843, a Rev. Moses Kieffer served the Alexandria charge as Reformed minister, and to-day finds another Moses Kieffer presiding over the affairs of the Reformed Church at Alexandria, Huntingdon County, Pa. Rev. Moses A. Kieffer, the subject of this sketch, was born at Mercersburg, Pa., December 31, 1869. He laid the foundation for his ministerial career at the rural schools of Franklin County, Pa. Son of Jonas Kieffer and Elemina (Brandt) Kieffer, the father dying in 1913, aged seventy-four years, and the mother dying in 1924, aged eighty-four years. Rev. Moses A. Kieffer attended Mercersburg Academy for three years. Graduated from Franklin and Marshall, class of 1896, recievng the degree of A.B.; also graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary, receiving the degree of B.D., and A.M., in 1899. He took post- graduate work along Rural Social lines at Penn State College in 1929. Graduate of Spruce Creek Training Camp; received certificate granted by International Council of Religious Education; at present is pastor of Reformed Church, U.S.A., Alexandria, Pa. Appointed January 1, 1926; is also Superintendent of Sunday School. His first charge was at Olivet Reformed Church, Reading, Pa., after which he was at Harrisonburg, Va.; Schuylkill Haven, Pa., and Mifflinburg, Pa. During World War was located at Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; had a congregation of one thousand members; out of this membership seventy were enlisted, mostly volunteers, including three doctors and two nurses. Rev. Kieffer belongs to the Masonic Fraternity, Rockingham Union, Harrisonburg, Va., No. 27; also Chapter of the above named place; the I.O.O.F., Mifflinburg, Pa.; P.O.S. of A., Mifflinburg, Pa.; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Pottsville, Pa; County Ministerial Association. Has one brother living and five brothers deceased. Five sisters living and two deceased. Rev. Kieffer was married to Elizabeth Hagerman, a daughter of Harrison and Sarah Hagerman, of Franklin County, Pa., a merchant. Children are Walter H., Sharon, Pa. Sarah, married to Fred Spigler, Hagerstown, Maryland. Elizabeth, a Senior at Catawba College, North Carolina. One daughter, Virginia, died at the age of eleven years, at Schuylkill Haven, Pa. Rev. Kieffer has been instrumental in creating an advanced interest in church work.
