J. E. KNOX Allenport, Huntingdon County, Pa. Service Station: Mrs. J. E. Knox, the subject of this sketch, was born in Sinking Valley, Huntingdon Co., Pa., and at Waterstreet received her first principles of an early education. Lee Goodman was her father; he was a contractor and builder; died in 1924, aged seventy-two years. Almeda (Beck) Goodman, her mother, died December 24, 1924; her father was a Civil War veteran. In 1926 Mrs. Knox established a service station at Allenport, at what is known as Miller's Crossing, making it convenient for tourists and the public, for light lunch, ice cream, confectionery, also the sale of gas and oils. Both she and her husband are Lutherans, Mount Union Church. During the World War her husband was with the Baldwin Locomotive Works as machinist. In politics Mrs. Knox is a Republican. She has six brothers: Walter, married to Winifred Waite, a plumber, Altoona, Pa.,; Lemuel, married to Clara Waite, a plumber, Altoona, Pa.; David C., a hardware merchant, plumber, and interested in bakery, Mount Union, Pa. He was married to Ethel Kyper; she is Secretary of School Board; they reside at Mount Union, Pa.; Paul, a plumber, Mount Union, Pa.; Louis, a widower, Warriorsmark, Pa.; Carl, married to Mary Morder, Waterstreet, Pa.; a drayman. Mrs. Knox was married to Elmer Knox, a machinist at U.S. Refractories plant for more than six years. They have two children: David, thirteen years, a Sophomore, Mount Union High School; Jean, who attends Allenport schools. Note: John E. (48; machinist, brick yard), Lucy G. (43; salesman, confectionery), David G. (13) and Elmer J. (9) Knox are listed in the 1930 Shirley, Huntingdon County census.
