Postmaster and Merchant: Born in Locke's Valley. This valley derives its name from the numerous amount of families that carry the name of Locke. Several Lockes are postmasters. William Locke was born September 21, 1889. Early schooling at Locke's Valley. Son of Allen and Emma Locke, of Lakemont Park, Blair County, Pa.; American born. Has a general merchandise store at Shade Gap, Pa. Appointed postmaster, November 1, 1919. A member of the M. E. Church, Shade Gap, Pa.; on Shade Gap Borough Council. A Republican in politics. Raised on a farm in Locke's Valley; a practical man, and understands every phase of farming and lumber business. Was married to Orpha A. Piper, in 1912, by Rev. R. P. Daubenspeck, Huntingdon, Pa., at the parsonage. Have five children: Verna, Violet, Ralph, ten; Donald, seven; and Jack Locke, aged two years. Mr. Locke takes an interest in all that pertains to the welfare of Shade Gap. His interests are varied, and hunting is his delight. As postmaster he has filled this responsible position to the best interests of the public, knowing well that the public demands dependable service. Mr. Locke has the respect of the community and surrounding country. His place of business is well supplied with groceries, dry goods, drugs, and novelties.
