Lumber Dealer: He was born at Huntingdon, Pa., Dec. 25, 1874, a son of Herman Lorenz, deceased, and of Mary (Haines) Lorenz, residing at Huntingdon, Pa. Both parents came from Germany. Christ Lorenz began his education at the Fourth Ward School at Huntingdon, Pa.; promoted to high school. He has followed various occupations. At Altoona, Pa., he was a foreman, a contractor and builder; had a bakery in Altoona for three years; he then came to Huntingdon; bought the planing mill of the late John S. Bare, this being in 1914, now called the West End Planing Mill; rough and dressed lumber is at all times carried in stock as well as builders' supplies; contracts, plans and specifications and estimates are given. He belongs to the Abbey Reformed Church, as well as his wife. He is a member of the Elks, the Moose, Odd Fellows, Juniata Lodge No. 117, and the Knights of Malta. His brothers are Herman, a machinist at Huntingdon, Pa.; Edward, a machinist, Huntingdon, Pa.; Harry, an electrician in Altoona, Pa. His sisters are Mrs. Lizzie Robb, of McConnellstown, Pa.; Mary, married to George Baish, a salesman, Altoona, Pa. Christ Lorenz was married to Katherine Vetter, a daughter of Henry and Katherine Vetter, both deceased. They have two daughters, Gertrude, in the office of her father at West End Planing Mill Co.; Katherine, married to Gerald Oakman, a clerk for the P.R.R. Co.; one son, Chester, and one daughter, Margaret, are deceased.
