Assistant Cashier, Central National Bank: The middle name Dewey echoes the Spanish-American War, when that courageous Admiral, George Dewey, met and defeated the Spanish Armada in the Philippine Islands around 1898. But returning to the subject of this sketch, Gerald Dewey Lukens was born at Mount Union, Pa., January 21, 1898. A son of the late George W. Lukens, and Annie (Smith) Lukens, both deceased; they were American born. Gerald Lukens began his schooling at the Mount Union grade schools climbed higher, continued on and received his diploma in 1916, and being ambitious, entered that old established school of accountants, Peirce Business College, Philadelphia, Pa. He graduated in 1917, and to put into practice his knowledge gained in the Mount Union High School and Peirce College, he became associated with the Irving Trust Company of New York City. A giant among financial institutions, he remained with this institution for a period of three years. Relinquishing this position of trust he became associated with the Central National Bank of Mount Union, Pa., which has turned out financial experts. He is at present the assistant cashier. He is a Methodist, and attends Sunday School. Has been on the Election Board, and served as Borough Auditor. Needless to say he is a Republican. Brothers are Harry L., Mount Union, Pa., coal dealer; Charles B., Mount Union, real estate and insurance; Fred deceased. Sisters are: Mrs. Olive McGregor, Altoona, Pa.; Mrs. George Long, Mount Union, Pa. Gerald Lukens was married to Amelia Huntsman, of Mount Union, Pa. The father of twins: Lois Olean, four years; Louise, naturally the same age, and Charles Frederick, eight years. Gerald Lukens has won his way to the front in the financial world.
