Merchant: Frank Keith Mattern was schooled in the mercantile business. His father, Jacob H. Mattern, was a merchant for fifty years, both at State College and at Warriorsmark. He died in 1925, at the age of eighty years. He was married to Mary Waite, now living at Warriorsmark, Pa. Frank Keith Mattern was born at Warriorsmark, January 26, 1872, and began his school career at Warriorsmark, Pa. Graduated at State College, Class of 1894, in mechanical engineering. Was with the Pennsylvania Steel Company, now the Bethlehem Steel Company, at Steelton, Pa. In 1898 he took over his father's general merchandise business; has capable and obliging clerks. He is also interested in the lumber business; occupies principal location in Warriorsmark. Is interested in church and Sunday school work. A member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; is a steward; is on the official board; superintendent of Sunday school; wife and daughter also belong to church and Sunday school. At present the members are building a new church; he is on the building committee. During the World War he was a food administrator for this section; helped along the Liberty Loan, Red Cross and Salvation Army drives. A Mason, Past Master, No. 494, Tyrone, Pa.; Altoona Chapter, Commandery and Council. A Shriner, Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.; Harrisburg Consistory; belongs to the P.O.S. of A., Warriorsmark, Pa. One brother, Hayes W., deceased, Tyrone, Pa.; he was married to Helen Heckman, a daughter of Rev. Isaac Heckman, deceased, of Tyrone, Pa. Frank Keith Mattern was married to Jesse E. La Porte, a daughter of Hunter and Elizabeth La Porte, farmers, Warriorsmark, Pa.; both are deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Mattern have one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, thirteen years of age, at school, a Sophomore; she was named after both grandparents.
