Register and Recorder: Brady Township has furnished many good, tried and true men, and among them is James Simon McCall, and in the public schools he began to mold his future career. He was born in Brady Township, January 23, 1874. Alexander D. McCall was his father; his mother was Anna May White, who was born on the McMurtrie farm in Smithfield Township, adjoining the borough of Huntingdon, Pa. The father died in 1906, the mother in 1913. Of that strong Scotch-Irish descent, James McCall was graduated at Juniata College, in the Business Course, in 1898, and for three years taught school in Juniata and West Township. Through being a clerk with Hugo Mayer, clothing merchant of Huntingdon, Pa., for thirty years, he made many friends and acquaintances, and thus, in 1928, we find him a candidate for the office of Register and Recorder, to which he was elected by a substantial majority. Mr. McCall is a member of the First Methodist Church of Huntingdon, Pa., is on the Official Board, and also Librarian and Secretary of the Men's Bible Class. A member of the I.O.O. F., No. 117, Encampment and Canton, and naturally a Republican. One brother, Thomas M., resides at McAlevy's Fort. Three sisters: Blanche E., married to Joseph Bigelow, Altoona, Pa.; Catharine C., married to Wallace Davis, Altoona, Pa., and Mary B., married to Jerry J. Jones, Altoona, Pa. James McCall was married to Mary C. Brumbaugh, who died in 1910. One daughter, Helen, has taught English in the Warriorsmark High School for two years. She is a graduate of the Huntingdon High School, Class of 1922, with honors; also at Juniata College in 1926. Mr. McCall is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Huntingdon, Pa.
